59th Annual Show 26th, 27th August 17

The Midlands Dahlia Society Annual Show  was supported by exhibitors from many parts of the UK. The quality of blooms was excellent, given the weather prior to the show. The honours were shared across many exhibitors – 10 different exhibitors won in the 15 Trophy classes.

S Burns is Midlands Champion.

Steve wins ChampionshipThe Midlands Championship for the Mawby Trophy was won by 
S Burns from Skelmesdale, in a strong class of 6 entries with a mix of varieties. Steve had a wonderful 'top class' entry comprising: Cream Moonlight, Hamari Accord, Trelyn Kiwi and Winholme Diane. The exhibit was also awarded an NDS Silver Medal for best exhibit in show. His vase of dianes won the Decorative Cup for medium / miniature dec dahlias. 


Ian wins best vase in show

Ian Sutherland
won the Styvechale Trophy showing two vases of Trelyn Kiwi, one of which won the Violet Davies Premier Award for best vase in the show, as well as the Eddie Durrant Memorial Trophy for the best vase small/ min cactus / semi cactus in show.

Ian wins Philip Damp trophy 

Ian Hill
came down from Yorkshire to win the Philip Damp Trophy, with a good show of Cream Alvas, John Hill, Sir Alf Ramsey, Alva’s Superb and Bryn Terfel .
Mel Cookman won the George Woodfield Trophy as the best bloom of Giant / Large decs in show with one of his Sir Alf Ramsey blooms. 
 
Below Mel won the Irish Challenge Trophy with a strong entry of 3 blooms of Westerton Lillian.

Paul wins Gordon Steel trophyRon 
Paul Fulford won his first Trophy class winning the Gordon Steel Trophy for 6 medium decs of Charlie Two  Society President Ron Guest was a winner in the members classes. 
 Peter wins Poms

Peter Clubb
won the George Irvine Perpetual Challenge Cup with Gurtla Twilight, Willows Violet and Moorplace.
Barlestone Beauty 

Dave Reid won class 51 - the Medium / Large / Giant seedling class with Barlestone Beauty.

Novice Classes were well supported - 5 exhibitors staged 17 vases in a range of varieties in the 6 classes.
Neil wins Don Brawn trophy The winner of the Don Brawn trophy for the best exhibit in the Novice classes was Neil Mallaby showing Nulands Josephine in Class 42.
Liz wins waterlilys

1st time showing in the Novice classes, Liz Appleby won showing Vivienne Russel.
