Tuber Sale Wed 19th Jan 11

Tuber sale prices up 55% on last year!

Over 50 members attended the tuber sale.  Despite the very cold weather in December, there were lots of tubers for sale on Wednesday evening.  Prices however were up 55% on last year probably due to members having lost tubers in the bad weather.  Bruce, the society treasurer was very pleased with the sale proceeds.  Thanks to all those members who contributed tubers to the sale.
It was good to see some new members getting their tubers, hopefully we shall see their efforts rewarded at the summer shows here in Kenilworth.

Tubers of Weston Spanish Dancer achieved a record price of £7.00.

Tom McLelland

I don't think that Tom McLelland, who raised the variety, would have been pleased!!
Weston Spanish Dancer blooms can be seen on Tom's right, with another of his popular varieties - Weston Pirate (which went for £5 per tuber).

When I attended my first tuber sale I sat next to Tom.  He told me not to pay more than £1 per tuber!

Over 50 members were at this year's tuber sale - see above photo.  There were 62 different varieties of tuber for sale, a slight reduction on last year.  4 varieties of tuber raised more than £6 each!  A complete list can be seen here:   Tuber sale prices
